Les Paul's 'Log' was one of the earliest solid-body electric guitar prototypes, built in 1940, years before Fender's Broadcaster/Telecaster. It was essentially a 4x4 piece of pine with hardware attached, and later mounted onto a hollowed-out Epiphone body for traditional looks.
